Died 29 May 1942 in Los Angeles, California, USA, of cirrhosis of the liver and pneumonia.

Son of actor Maurice Blythe (stage name Maurice Barrymore) and actress Georgie Drew;
brother of actor Lionel Barrymore and actress Ethel Barrymore.

Married actress Katherine Corri Harris, 1 September 1910; divorced, 6 December 1917.
Married writer Blanche Oelrichs (pen name Michael Strange), 5 August 1920; divorced, 19 November 1928;
daughter, actress Diana Blanche Barrymore Blythe (screen name Diana Barrymore), 3 March 1921.
Married actress Dolores Costello, 24 November 1928; divorced, 9 October 1935;
son, actor John Sidney Blythe Barrymore Jr. (screen name John Drew Barrymore), born 4 June 1932;
one other child.
Married Elaine Barrie, 9 November 1936; divorced, 27 November 1940.
Granddaughter, actress Drew Barrymore.
