Daughter of actor Richard Bennett and actress Adrienne Morrison;
sister of actress Constance Bennett and actress Barbara Bennett.

Married John Marion Fox, 15 September 1926 at St. Luke’s Church in London, England, United Kingdom;
divorced, August 1928; daughter, Adrienne Ralston Fox, born 20 February 1928.
Married screenwriter Gene Markey, 16 March 1932, at the Town House apartment hotel in Hollywood, California, USA; divorced,3 June 1937; daughter, actress Melinda Markey, born 27 February 1934.
Married producer Walter Wanger, 12 January 1940; divorced, 20 September 1965;
daughter, Shelley Wanger; daughter, Stephanie Guest, born 26 June 1943.
Married David Morris Wilde, 14 February 1978; until Joan’s death, 7 December 1990.

Joan Bennett’s first stage appearance was in the stage production of Damaged Goods, starring her father Richard Bennett, at Chicago in 1914. Her first film appearance was as a pageboy in The Eternal City (1923). Her serious acting career began in 1928 and continued throughout her life.
